Landscape masterplan
Namo Van is a large-scale urban forest and public landscape along the Ganga in Varanasi, transforming an ambitious plantation initiative into an immersive, biodiverse and accessible civic landscape.

Context
Set along the Ganga riverfront in Varanasi, Namo Van began as a major ecological restoration and afforestation initiative, with the challenge of transforming a vast planted landscape into a public place that could remain accessible and meaningful as the forest matures. The masterplan needed to accommodate dense Miyawaki planting, timber and fruit plantations while creating opportunities for walking, recreation, learning and wellness. On 1 March 2026, Varanasi Municipal Corporation planted 251,446 plants in one hour at Namo Van, earning an official Guinness World Records title and bringing extraordinary public participation to the larger restoration effort.
