Context

Set along the coastline of Rameshwaram, the proposal called for a 30-room boutique resort that could respond to an exposed, warm coastal environment while giving every guest a strong connection to the sea. Rather than approaching the site as a collection of conventional hotel blocks, the brief was interpreted as a sequence of shaded, intimate spaces where rooms, courtyards, landscape and water could create moments of refuge within the open coastal setting.

Response

The masterplan organises guest rooms and shared spaces around internal courtyards, shaded walkways and landscaped gathering areas, maintaining visual connections towards the sea throughout the resort. Catalan vaults form the principal architectural language, creating naturally expressive interiors while adding thermal mass and shade suited to the coastal climate. Copper-clad roof surfaces are intended to weather and patinate over time, allowing the architecture to change with its environment. Rooms open towards landscape and sea views, while restaurants, pool areas and common spaces are distributed as a series of smaller experiences rather than one dominant resort building.
